A security deadbolt is a special kind of locking mechanism. This kind of door bolt is a far superior locking system than any other residential entry door lock. It is considered to be more secure than an ordinary key-operated lock because the weight of the locking bar is usually sufficient to increase break-in time to 10 or 15 minutes. What is a security deadbolt?
A security deadbolt is a bolt on a lock that is moved by turning the key or knob without activation of a spring. It is a type of door lock, when locked, extends a heavy metal projection (or bolt) into the door jamb. Unlike a spring-bolt where the bolt is held in place only by the pressure of a spring, and can easily be retracted, a deadbolt lock cannot be opened unless and until you rotate the lock cylinder. Deadbolts help in preventing forced entry because they provide atleast one inch of surface contact between the door and frame. The deadbolt can be retrofitted onto most entry doors including hollow and wood core steel doors and many other door locks.
