Padlock

Padlock
A padlock is defined as a detachable lock which has a hinged shackle that can be passed through the staple of a hasp or the links in a chain and then snapped shut. While some modern padlocks do not require a key to be closed, there are others which require it, most often as a security measure against leaving the key inside the location being locked.

Combination Locks
Combination padlocks do not have keys. The lock opens when its wheels are lined up correctly to display the correct combination. Often the padlock is re-programmable by holding the shackle in a special position while turning the wheels, allowing the number to be changed if necessary.

Uses of Padlocks
Padlocks have a wide variety of uses. In schools, workplaces, homes etc., they are used to keep lockers secure. There are very small padlocks that can be attached to suitcases when traveling, to prevent casual thieves. Padlocks are also used as part of the security measures on commercial and industrial sites, particularly for outdoor areas.
