The door stop is an object or
device used to hold a door open or closed, or to prevent a door from
opening too widely. The door stops are used to prevent doors from
opening too far and damaging nearby walls. The door stops can be a short
length of rubber-tipped wood or metal screwed into the top or bottom of
the door. There are door stops that can be screwed into either the wall
or the floor in the path of the door. If it is attached to the wall, the
stop may be either a few inches above the ground or near the top of the
door. On occasion, stops are also used to be fitted at the midpoint of
the door, as part of the central door-hinge and such stops are known as
"hinge pins".
