Hinges are the hardware used on
doors as well as on lids that allow them to open and close. Door Hinges
are nothing but two plates joined together by a pin and attached to a
door and its frame whereby, a door is supported and is enabled to swing
or move. Door hinges are made of various metals, like brass door hinges,
aluminum hinges, steel hinges which come in different sizes to suit
varied requirements. Earlier door hinges used to come in simple designs,
but of late, they are categorized into many types of decorative,
functional, and architectural Commercial Door Hinges. They are available
in polished brass, oil rubbed bronze, antique nickel, and brushed chrome
finish and many other finishes. They are also available with square
corners.
Most hinges can be fitted to a door, irrespective whether they open to
the left or the right, but with certain "handed" hinges you
must specify whether you want a left-hand or right-hand hinge when
buying these. The pivoting section of a hinge is called the knuckle.
Hinges also have another benefit. If doors are too narrow you can
correct the situation inexpensively by replacing existing hinges with
expandable offset hinges. These hinges will swing the door clear of the
opening, thus adding a couple of inches more clearance.
