Another kind of hinges used in
door is the continuous hinges. Also called piano hinge, this hinge fits
along the entire length of the door. This is a long hinge with very
narrow leaves and many screw holes. Initially , the hinge was designed
for a piano because it combines strength with good looks. You cannot use
strap or other hinges on a piano lid without detracting its looks. Hence
continuous hinge is called the piano hinge. The continuous hinge
provides protection against warping and is also frequently used on chest
lids and cabinets besides the main doors. Continuous hinges are
available in various sizes and these hinges can be 72" long at the
maximum. These hinges are especially good where the material is thin and
strength and good looks are required.
